So you or someone you know just sustained a spinal cord injury (SCI). There are probably a million thoughts or questions running through your mind. What does a SCI mean? What will I experience? What does the future hold for me? These are all natural questions one may ponder after such an injury. In a nutshell, SCI’s can occur in three areas; the cervical, thoracic, or lumbar sections of the vertebrae. Depending on where the damage has occurred will dictate the symptoms and level of mobility of the injured person. SCI’s can be further characterized by as complete or incomplete which will further determine the nature of the injury.

There is no doubt that there will be changes to your sex life and the way you view sex after an injury. Remember, a SCI does not mean that you have to give up your sex life; you just have to commit yourself to having an open mind. Many people have reported to have a more intimate and special connection after an injury. In any case it is important in all relationships to have an open communication system in order to have a healthy and active sexual life.
