2007 CSRO Events Update

2007 was another successful fundraising year for the CSRO and spinal research; in fact, with the generous help of our friends, last year was the most successful since the foundation of the CSRO. All these fundraising events would not have been such as a great success without our volunteers, participants and corporate sponsors who came out to support the CSRO. Thank you for helping us raise thousands of dollars for SCI Research!

  • Uni-Select Golf Tournament
Our friends at Uni-Select, Canada’s leading network of independently owned auto parts dealers, have selected again the CSRO as the beneficiary of this year’s annual charity golf tournament. We raised $22,000 with all the proceeds going to the Shoot For A Cure Moto-Sport, a campaign directed to raising awareness about the importance of safe driving in order to reduce the incidence of spinal cord injuries due to motor vehicle crashes, as well as raising funds for SCI research.

  • Bradford Victorian Tea Luncheon
Yet another year, our friends Fern Fraser and Nancy Young organized a day of fun in the Victorian costumes to raise money for spinal research. The Victorian annual luncheon took place on November 3 in the Nancy Young’s home in Bradford. While raising over $11,000 to support the CSRO, the ladies fan another day of fun and are looking forward to the next year’s event!

  • Chris Beehler Open
The annual Chris Beehler Open was held in Kingston on August 15 th this year. Over the past 11 years, the Chris Beehler Open has raised over $100,000 for the CSRO and SCI research. This year’s event was a great success raising over $25,000.

  • Legends of the Game
The Hockey Legends from across Canada have been supporting the CSRO and SFAC for years. Two events have been hosted annually with the proceeds going to the Hockey Hall of Fame and SFAC: the Legends of the Game Fishing Classic, the Legends of the Game Golf Classic, both raising thousands of dollars for spinal research every year.

The 6 th Annual Legends of the Game Fishing Classic was hosted from July 7-12 th at the West Coast Resorts’ floating lodge off the northern coast of British Columbia. Hockey legends such as John McKenzie, John Bucyk (Boston Bruins), Denis Potvin (NY Islanders), Chris King, and Rick Vaive (both Toronto Maple Leafs), joined their fans in the “Game of Fishing” and raised $20,000 for both the Hockey Hall of Fame and SFAC.

This year’s Legends of the Game Golf Classic took place on August 14 th, 2007 at the gorgeous Club at Bond Head. The event was hosted by former Philadelphia Flyers Captain, Keith Primeau, an old friend of the CSRO and SFAC. The Legends and fans raised over $30,000 for SFAC and the Hockey Hall of Fame.

  • Alcatel Ottawa
On May 12 th, 2007, our friends from Alcatel-Lucent, TELUS and Syscom-Consulting got together in a six game hockey tournament in Ottawa to raise money for the CSRO and SCI research. The 2 nd annual event was extremely successful, increasing the donations from last year’s $3,000 to this year’s $8,000!

  • Woodbine Jockeys’ and Drivers’ BBQ
On July 7, 2007, the CSRO introduced a new branch of the SFAC campaign-Shoot For A Cure Horse Racing. The jockeys and drivers united to support the CSRO and to help fund SCI research. The first fundraising event, the Jockeys’ & Drivers’ BBQ took place at the Woodbine Racetrack on September 11, 2007 and was generously sponsored by Woodbine Entertainment Group. Hundreds of members of the Woodbine community came together to support this great cause. The Woodbine community raised an amazing $40,000! The CSRO is exited to work both with the jockeys and the drivers to develop SFAC Horse Racing and continue to raise funds for spinal research.

  • Weekend Wailers
The Weekend Wailers golf tournament was yet again held at the beautiful Cardinal Golf Club in May of 2007. The event exceeded its pervious success by raising over $15,000 in support to the CSRO. The special guest at the event was the NHL player, Nick Boynton of the Phoenix Coyotes.

We would like to thank Dave Lostchuck, a member of the CSRO Board of Directors and our long term supporter, who has been organizing the Weekend Wailers to raise funds for the CSRO for years!
  • Ken Allure Rock N’ Wheel
A very unique and event was held in Mount Bridges, Ontario with the goal of raising money for the CSRO and SCI research. Several bands organized a rock concert, while inviting the local community to join them in raising money for a great cause. Along with the proceeds from the concert and auctions $25,000 was raised!

  • Victorian Tea Luncheon
In November of last year, once again the home of Richard and Jean Fraser in Goulbourn, Ontario became a castle of the Victorian era for the purposes of raising funds for the CSRO and spinal cord injury research. With the help of our friend Maxine Gaddye, the Frasers organized another Victorian Tea Luncheon, raising over $18,000. Like every year, all guests had great time while raising money for a great cause. We would like to thank again our great trio: thank you Richard, Jean and Maxine!

  • Shoppers Home Health/CSRO GT
Organized at the gorgeous Bond Head Golf Club in Bond Head, Ontario, this year’s Annual CSRO golf tournament got a new Title Sponsor; thanks to the Shoppers Home Health we raised over $40,000 this year! We are looking forward to the next year’s Shoppers Home Health/CSRO golf tournament!

As national not-for-profit organizations, both the CSRO and ASRO are dependant on events to fundraise as well as raise awareness about spinal cord injuries. Some of our events also help promote prevention programs that both organizations are involved with.
